Supporting people in Rickmansworth and online with anxiety, panic, burnout, relationship challanges, trauma, insomnia, ADHD and autism. For adults who look like they’re coping on the outside but internally feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted or unable to switch off. and the weight of modern life, when holding it all together starts to feel impossible.
A warm welcome. I’m Kalpna Hirani, a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Rickmansworth (WD3), near Watford, Hertfordshire. I work with adults (18+), couples, families and professionals who may appear capable, responsible and seem to be coping and functioning well on the outside, but internally feel on edge or overwhelmed and find it hard to switch off, and struggling with insomnia and burnout. I also support people navigating loneliness, life transitions and the quiet exhaustion that comes from always being the capable one, at work, at home and everywhere in between. I have experience in supporting clients experiencing panic disorders, depression, trauma (including PTSD, CPTSD, abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, relational truama), relationship difficulties including family issues, low self-esteem, chronic stress, overwhelm and emotional exhaustion, sleep problems and neurodivergent related challenges including ADHD and autism.
Many of my clients are adults exploring a possible ADHD or autism diagnosis, including people who have been diagnosed in adulthood or are beginning to recognise long standing patterns such as overwhelm, masking, emotional burnout, rejection sensitivity, people pleasing or executive functioning difficulties. I offer neuro-affirming therapy that works with your nervous system, communication style and the way your mind naturally processes the world.
My goal is to always offer you a safe, confidential, compassionate space, grounded in empathy and understanding where you can explore your struggles, develop coping strategies, work towards emotional well being and feeling more connected to yourself and your relationships. The information below explains how I strive to be alongside you, supporting and helping you as you navigate life’s challenges. I’m here to help you overcome them and achieve emotional wellbeing.
What therapy might look like
I offer a confidential, supportive and respectful safe space where you can talk openly about your feelings, thoughts and life experiences, at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we gently explore difficult emotions and experiences that have shaped you. By being in tune with how you are feeling and by understanding your experiences, I will support you to develop your awareness and self compassion.
Therapy with me is not about advice giving or being told what to do. Its an active and collaborative process where together, we work to uncover:
- The root of what’s affecting you,
- Understand patterns in thoughts and behaviour,
- Your unique experiences and reactions
I bring professional knowledge, therapeutic skills and extensive experience, but I always recognise that you are the expert in your own life. We would work collaboratively to develop practical ways of coping and empower you to make choices that bring about effective change that you feel is right for you, so you feel more in control of your life and can be the best person that you can be.
I do not diagnose or label. I see therapy not as a “fix” or a “cure” but as a process that sets something in motion. Real change happens when you feel safe enough to be open, curious and willing to try things differently, both in and between sessions.
How I tailor therapy to you
My training and experience across several therapeutic models allows me to integrate different methods and create a personalised therapy experience designed specifically for you. I draw on:
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT),
- Person centred therapy (PCA),
- Systemic therapy,
- Internal family systems (IFS),
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR),
- Transactional Analysis (TA).
I also integrate aspects of Compassion focused therapy (CFT), nervous system regulation and Psychodynamic perspective where helpful. This integrative approach means our work can be flexible, responsive and tailored to support you in processing emotions, improving relationships and developing coping strategies in a way that feels authentic and empowering for you. If you prefer, I can also offer EMDR or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as focused, standalone treatments.
You can explore anything you like, at your own pace. Whatever you choose to bring into the conversation, I’m here to support you. I work with integrity, authenticity and deep respect for your individual experiences. My role is to walk alongside you in this process with care and compassion and gently challenge unhelpful patterns so you can discover new ways of being. Therapy works best as a collaborative process. I bring professional knowledge and therapeutic skill, while you bring your own life experience and curiosity about yourself. Together we explore what might help you move forward.
